Divorce Law

Preparing and going through a divorce can prove to be one of the most stressful times for any couple and their families.  It is important that you have the right, experienced attorney to represent you in your divorce case.  Attorney Bornstein strives to reach resolve by first attempting a collaborative  approach (seen directly below), but realize that will not always work for every couple.

Custody Law

Custody law, as written in the state of CT states - "the right of one parent to make all the decisions with respect to the upbringing of the child.” Generally, there is no other area of family law that can bring on the tensions that child custody can.  Shari understands these tensions and confidentially works with her clients with sensitivity, to reach the best resolve.

Collaborative Law

Collaborative law, also referred to as collaborative divorce or collaborative family law, is simply an alternative to court for a couple facing divorce.  We realize there are many challenges when facing a divorce, especially when there are children involved, and as an alternative, collaborative law can provide a positive medium in dealing with these many concerns without having to rely on litigation.

Criminal Law

About Attorney Bornstein
Attorney Shari Bornstein focuses her practice in the area of family matters, including dissolution of marriages and civil unions, custody actions and child representation as an attorney for minor children in these matters or as Guardian ad Litem. In addition to litigation, Attorney Bornstein is trained to handle these family matters with a collaborative approach. She is a member of the Connecticut Divorce Lawyers Association and the Central Connecticut Collaborative Family Law Group. She also serves as a Special Master for the Superior Court, providing assistance to colleagues and litigants to help settle pending cases.

Attorney Bornstein served for many years as a special public defender and private attorney representing clients in criminal matters in the various G.A. Courts for a variety of matters and more serious matters in the Part A Courts of Hartford, New Britain and Middletown.

Attorney Bornstein is also a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the Hartford County Bar Association , the James W. Cooper Fellows Bar Foundation, and the Guardian ad Litem Academy.
